Sally Shrestha Yoga is based in Dorking, a peaceful market town nestled in the Surrey Hills. Sally teaches Hatha Yoga classes for ages 16+ and all abilities. Having trained as a yoga teacher later in life, Sally understands how the daily demands on one’s body can take their toll and how yoga can help to overcome this.
Yoga is all about
Sally runs focused workshops that deepen your knowledge of yoga and are a fun way to spend a morning or afternoon.
Sally offers one-to-one yoga classes and partner yoga classes if you would like to benefit from a more personal practice.
Weekly Yoga classes currently available are shown below.
Sally is passionate about making yoga as accessible as possible for everyone. Many of us lead sedentary lives sitting at desks, hunched over computers, and relying on driving to get about. Regular yoga practice gives you time to de-stress and increase your flexibility, strength, and stamina, leaving your body and mind refreshed and ready to face the rest of your day. Drawing on her knowledge of the Iyengar, Astanga, and Hatha yoga styles, Sally guides you clearly and carefully through a series of preparatory poses before moving into peak postures. She models the poses while explaining the intention behind them, the mental and physical benefits, and how to modify them as and when necessary. Sally always allows time for self-inquiry during the class so that you can deepen your understanding of your body and understand why some poses are more or less accessible to you than others.
Self-acceptance is fundamental to moving your yoga practice forward. Sally has supported students with back, shoulder, and knee issues and has seen first-hand how accepting and appreciating all that the body can do in the present moment reduces the frustrations that create tensions in the body. This in turn allows your body to relax and move more deeply into poses with better self-awareness and self-care.
Please bring a mat and blanket with you. I will advise you of any equipment you will need in future sessions. You can buy it from me, or there are plenty of good retailers out there.

I am an advocate for mental health and support Dorking Minds, a local mental health charity, and on occasion run breathing and meditation sessions for them.
As my children became more independent, I was able to join a weekly yoga class and it felt good! Having the time to focus on me made me feel reenergised and refocused in readiness for the following week. It was at this moment that I realised how powerful yoga was for realigning oneself. This instilled a passion in me to explore yoga to a deeper level and I completed a 200+ hr Hatha Raja Yoga teacher training course. The branch of yoga I studied was Astanga; a dynamic and meditative practice that is physically demanding. It was hard, I was challenged physical and mentally – and I loved every minute of it.
My yoga journey has woven in and out of my life since the age of 22. Living in Nepal and beginning my journey into motherhood in Kathmandu, I found it important to find some time for me. I began with Iyengar yoga and practised with two amazing teachers who were taught directly by BKS Iyengar himself. After returning to the UK, I had my second daughter, trained as a primary school teacher, and got swept up in the busyness of family life and working full-time.
After teaching yoga in the evenings and weekends for some years, in 2019, I took the decision to hang up my whiteboard pen, put away my laptop, leave my 18-year career as a primary school teacher, and focus on teaching yoga. I have not looked back. The more I teach, the more I learn. I am fascinated by human anatomy and teach with this at the forefront of my mind. Everyone is different. Yoga is a time of self-inquiry; your mat is your practice. Yoga has taught me that it doesn’t matter what anyone else is doing or how flexible they are. Yoga is uniting your mind and body.
The world we live in is chaotic and pressurised. Time is the most precious commodity we have. I will guide you through your yoga practice in a safe and nurturing environment so that you will experience a stillness of mind and be reenergised and refocused for when it is time to return to your daily activities.
