Islands are some of the most important sites in the world for global biodiversity - from South Georgia in the Antarctic, flanked by towering glaciers and dominated by vast penguin colonies, to Samoa in the Pacific, home to the closest living relative of the extinct dodo. Conservation biologist and former-Churchill Fellow on island conservation policy and practice, Joshua Powell, takes us on a tour of some of the world’s most spectacular treasure islands and looks at what is being done to protect them.

Joshua Powell is a conservation biologist and National Geographic Explorer. A former-Churchill Fellow on islands conservation policy and practice to the South Pacific, Josh has since worked on island conservation projects around the world, including in both polar regions, the Caribbean and the Atlantic. He is currently based at the Zoological Society of London, where he is working on endangered species conservation on the islands of Samoa. Josh is one of the faces of WWF’s #WWFVoices campaign on global biodiversity and is the co-founder of Rangers Without Borders.
