Description
'Bring Your Baby' Guided London Walks are sensitively devised to suit parents and carers of even the tiniest babies to enjoy London’s history. We can stop whenever you like to feed and change - without the stress of feeling you are holding up the group. Scheduled cafe stop halfway for refreshment and baby change.
You are welcome to bring friends and family who do not also have a baby (every adult needs a ticket).
This 'Women from Hackney's History' walk has been adapted from a book for which I wrote 23 entries and include stories of Hackney women using tangible locations where possible.
We encounter:
- Mary Wollstonecraft, mother of feminism and Mary Shelley (author of Frankenstein)’s mother
- Elizabeth Stuart, Queen of Bohemia, daughter of James I, sister of Charles I and grandmother of George I
- Hannah Woolley, 17th century domestic goddess and one of the earliest women to make a living as a writer
- Helen Sadler, first mistress of 16th century Sutton House
- Music Hall stars of The Hackney Empire, including Marie Lloyd, Belle Davis and Hetty King
- Laura Ormiston Chant, suffragist and social reformer
- Harriet Delph & Frances Garlick, notable teachers of the blind in Hackney
- Lady Lucy Somerset, Baroness Latimer, in close service to two of Henry VIII’s wives
- Margaretta Beaufoy, talented 18th century mathematician
- Anna Maria Lucas, recipient of slave compensation
- Sarah Flower Adams, hymn writer
- Margaret Graham, Victorian aeronaut who was the first woman to make a solo balloon flight
- Susanna Perwich, musical child prodigy
- Jane Daniell, who with her husband blackmailed Queen Elizabeth I’s favourite
- Nelly Power, star of burlesque and music hall, who was thrown back into poverty by an abusive husband

By attending you are giving your permission for these to be used for Bring Your Baby Ltd promotional purposes. Any individual who we have taken a photograph of and published can request that any photographs are removed and deleted at any time. Even if they have given consent when booking according to our terms and conditions, they can of course withdraw their consent and can contact us at the email provided. - At 'Bring Your Baby Pub Quizzes', we understand that the parent or guardian will want to keep sleeping babies close to their table in baby carriers (including, for example: prams, buggies or car seats). However if babies are awake we reserve the right to ask the parent or guardian to move their baby carrier into a designated area of the venue to meet health and safety requirements (such as clear access to fire exits and clear walkways).
