What Charlotte Musgrove Yoga says

My mum and baby yoga classes offer a safe space for you to connect and bond with your baby whilst also connecting with the needs of your postnatal body. Movements are included to help ease out the physical body and gently rebuild strength following pregnancy and birth. The class also incorporates baby yoga and baby massage so your baby is included in your practice. These baby movements can be helpful with common conditions such as wind, constipation and colic, as well as helping your baby’s development and coordination. Each class ends with a relaxation to help you re-energise and restore. Classes are suitable from six weeks post vaginal birth and 12 weeks post caesarean. Please wait until you have seen your doctor for your postnatal appointment before commencing classes.

About

A warm welcome to you! I've been practicing yoga since 2004 and teaching yoga since 2010. I teach a mix of pregnancy and postnatal mum and baby yoga classes, as well as hatha and vinyasa flow classes.

Following the birth of my first daughter in early 2016 I completed my pregnancy yoga teacher training and have been teaching pregnancy yoga classes since 2017. I also offer postnatal mum and baby yoga classes and have been teaching these since 2019.

During my own pregnancy, I found my yoga practice to be invaluable for easing out the physical body, helping to relieve common ailments such as low back ache, rib pain or tight lower leg muscles. Yoga also helped to prepare and open my body ready for birth. I also learnt valuable breathing techniques such as ujjayi and golden thread breath, that helped me to stay grounded and relaxed during the birth of my baby. Alongside these benefits, there was the opportunity to relax, rest, and connect with my growing and developing baby and the needs of my pregnancy.

Once my baby was born, my yoga practice became a resource of support and nourishment. I used it to ease out areas of my body that felt tired and achy, as well as to help me slowly rebuild strength and stability post-birth. I also became a big fan of yoga nidra or yogic sleep, which allowed my body to take deep and healing rest. Something that is SO needed as a mother. Some of the breathing techniques I have learnt through yoga also became my go-to in times of overwhelm, exhaustion or stress to help me stay grounded, patient and calm.

As a result, I aim to offer all of these elements in my pregnancy and postnatal yoga classes. My classes are relaxed and informal, we have a welcome circle at the start of the class to check in with how everyone is so the class can be tailored to everyone’s needs. As well as the benefits of the yoga practice there is also the chance to meet other women who are pregnant or on their postnatal journey too. This helps to cultivate a support network during your pregnancy and transition into the new world of being a mum once your baby is born.
