What Motherly Love says

What is Motherly Love?
A free group for mums and birthing people that puts your needs first.

A peer to peer support group giving mums a safe space to talk about emotions, mental wellbeing and the challenges that come from being a parent.

We cover any topic that is impacting mums and birthing people - birth trauma, fertility issues, the mental load, returning to work, relationships, sex, loneliness.

Motherly Love is your weekly dose of mental health maintenance.

About

Our hope is that just as you'll attend baby massage and sensory classes once you're feeling up to it, you'll also join a Motherly Lovely group.

Born from a lack of support for women experiencing perinatal mental illness, Motherly Love has become so much more. It is a group of YOU, to think about yourself rather than your child. It is a weekly opportunity to sit and talk openly about how you are feeling, the challenges that come from beginning a parent, birth trauma, fertility issues, worries of returning to work, relationship issues, loneliness, sex, you name it and we'll talk about it.

We see Motherly Love as mental health maintenance (be assured we do support people in crisis too), it supports you and carries you through the difficult transition of parenthood.

We strongly believe that maternal mental illness is preventable. By giving mothers and birthing people the freedom
to talk, we normalise and validate emotions and feelings that at time feel like they shouldn't be thought of felt. And by doing this gives you permission to parent in the way you want.

Our groups are faciliated by Milli & Gemma, both mothers whose children are older and know just how hard those early years are. Gemma is a trained BACP counsellor and psychotherapist and Milli is a specialist peer support worker. They can help you navigate the system and support you to access relevant services that you might require.
