PEDAL PROJECT

Pedal Project runs cycling lessons for children aged 4 to 12+

What Pedal Project says

For children aged 4 to 12+.
The course costs £155 and consists of 3 one hour sessions, which is usually enough to get the children cycling. However if they need more sessions we provide extra sessions for no charge until they are cycling on their own.
Our locations are Barnes, Battersea, Catford, Camden, Twickenham and Wembley.
Bikes and helmets are provided; in each case we have chosen the best brand on the market.
We guarantee to get your child cycling
Here’s how our guarantee works…

You book your child or children on to a course of 3 one hour sessions. We usually find that 3 sessions is enough for your child to learn to ride a bike safely and confidently. However if they haven’t quite got there after 3 sessions, we offer extra sessions for no extra charge until they’ve cracked it!

We teach in small groups of no more than 8 and use a variety of games to help the children learn balance and control.

Our courses are always held indoors, so you need not worry about the weather.

Bikes
We only use Islabikes — the best children’s bikes on the market. They are lightweight and all components are scaled down in size. The brakes in particular are excellently designed, effective and easy to use.

At the course all the children learn on our bikes, but it is essential that they have a suitable bike to practise on in the days and weeks immediately after they learn to cycle. If you do not yet have a bike for your child, please read our advice on bike buying here. We can also advise you about bikes after the end of the first session of the course.

Helmets
The helmets we use at the course are made by Swiss brand TSG and we think they are the safest around. They sit lower on the child's head, covering their forehead and temples well. They are also lightweight so they don't fall back on the child's head like many he

About

The Pedal Project mission is clear: to get as many children as possible enjoying cycling.

Cycling has so many benefits, particularly to both physical and psychological health, as well as the freedom it affords. But perhaps the greatest benefit of learning to cycle is the huge boost in confidence it gives; learning a new skill for life. This is well illustrated by Sam’s story, as told by his mum Debbi:

“Learning to cycle has had a bigger impact on Sam than just being able to ride a bike. It has boosted his confidence and attitude to all aspects of his life including improving at swimming and trying harder at school, especially with aspects he finds challenging such as his handwriting. Pedal Project has shown him that you can learn to do things that seem hard and scary at first. Plus he’s learned that practice does make perfect – the more he rides his bike the better he gets.”

The two key principles of Pedal Project are safety and fun. Our fully qualified DBS (CRB) checked instructors make sure everyone learns to ride bikes safely in an enjoyable environment.
