Offering classes in the beautiful Main Hall at Sellincourt Primary School, Prima Dance Academy Tooting is passionate about providing a fun introduction to ballet.

Our Baby Ballet class is designed to introduce 3+ years of age to the magic and enjoyment of dance whilst introducing some of the basic elements of formal ballet training. Pre-Primary Class for 4+ years of age is the first Royal Academy of Dance grade and is structured to continue developing student's knowledge and understanding of ballet steps, technique and terminology.

Our main teacher, Nina Mattiello-Azadeh is an RAD Registered Teacher and all teachers and assistants have up to date DBS clearance.

About

The owners of Prima Dance Academy Tooting are Royal Ballet dancers, Claire Calvert and Alexander Campbell.

Claire was trained at the Royal Ballet School and has been a member of the Royal Ballet since 2007. During that time, Claire has taught at Yorkshire Ballet Seminars, The Royal Academy of Dance, Danceworks and was a coach and panellist for GradPro 2022 and 2023.

Alexander studied at the Royal Ballet School before joining Birmingham Royal Ballet in 2005 and then the Royal Ballet in 2011. As a teacher, Alexander has taught at the Yorkshire Ballet Seminars, the Royal Ballet Summer Schools and numerous masterclasses. He was an ambassador for a pilot program between the Royal Academy of Dance and the Marylebone Cricket Club and regularly gives talks and masterclasses for the RAD.

Nina Mattiello-Azadeh started dancing at the age of two at the Lisayne Ballet School in Birmingham. She was a junior associate of the Birmingham Royal Ballet and danced with Midland Theatre Ballet. She played in youth orchestras across Birmingham, including for the Elmhurst Ballet School graduate showcase in 2013. She has completed the Royal Academy of Dance grades from Pre-Primary to Advanced Two.

Nina has a degree in Music with Philosophy, studying cello, and a postgraduate in Arts in Education (Dance Teaching) from the Royal Academy of Dance. Nina has been teaching in a variety of capacities for ten years and she is a Registered Teacher with the RAD. She teaches students from babies to adults, and in during Covid restrictions hosted online beginner ballet classes. She provides private coaching for exams and festivals. Alongside being a teacher, Nina is a digital content producer for the Royal Opera House and works to improve access to ballet and music via digital platforms.

Nina believes in training the whole dancer; teaching dance in a way that contributes to wellbeing and self expression, whilst also training students to develop skills and work towards accomplishing their goals.
