Italian Baby & Me with Emma and Anna are friendly, weekly

classes for you and your little one to learn or practise Italian

together through simple songs, rhymes, games and more.

Ciao! I’m Emma, a mum of two young children who are half Italian. I have always loved languages and work as a translator when I’m not singing and rhyming!

Although I mostly speak to my children in English at home (it is still nice for my husband and I to have a secret language), they are both living proof that my

method of songs, rhymes and games can lead to new words and sounds being assimilated. I have been so encouraged by what we have achieved at home that I want to share this experience with as many other babies and toddlers as possible, from all different backgrounds.

This is the precious window in our child’s life where alongside the fast

assimilation of their mother-tongue they are also more than capable of learning a second language. We use loose parts play to encourage new language and sensory stimulation with our ever-changing ‘cestino dei tesori’ (treasure basket) to form memories and connections to cement new language, in much the same way we learn our mother-tongue. This works alongside our ‘parola del giorno’ (word of the day), with either the object itself or a visual aid to recall the concept (no English allowed when referring to it!).

I combine all this with traditional Italian songs and rhymes, in addition to well-known English ones, reimagined in Italian, using hand-made props, bubbles, colourful scarves, a parachute, starry lights and more.
