Description

What are we talking about when we talk about motherhood? Join us as we explore an array of humorous, controversial, popular works, and more, with writers who muse on the myths of motherhood, grapple with “good enough mothers” and serve us “delicious babies”! From a 19th century diarist to a 1980’s psychologist to a contemporary performance poet, we hear the voices of those who have birthed, adopted or become “the other mother” in this relaxed exploration of 16 varied writings.

M/OTHERWORDS unique online reading groups don’t require any reading beforehand. We provide all the reading material - short extracts from a range of writings on motherhood - on screen in the sessions and this is read aloud by the facilitator, Rebecca. There is an opportunity for discussion of the texts too. We welcome everyone including babies and toddlers and it is a very relaxed atmosphere.

Being online means that you can take part wherever you might be and can easily join in whilst caring for your baby and children. The groups are warm, friendly and relaxed. There will be a chance to hear from others and share your thoughts in a small break-out group, if you wish, or simply listen in.
You don’t need to be a bookworm or book expert! There are poems, extracts from memoirs, novels and journals; historical, cultural; well-known and less well-known writers; covering a range of emotions, situations and experiences relating to motherhood. The facilitator, Rebecca, will comment on the writings, and there will be pointers for discussion.

Groups meet weekly for 1 ¼ hours for four weeks.

Book via our website www.motherwords.org. You can also immerse yourself today in freely-available Originals (original interviews, reflections, commentary and writing on motherhood from authors, poets, anthropologists and more) and the collaborative digital magic of RE/VERB!
