School of Noise

Listen & Play classes for babies and toddlers exploring sound

What School of Noise says

School of Noise – Listen & Play classes support babies and toddlers to develop their listening and musical skills as they begin their journey through the sonic world around them.

During these classes, babies, toddlers and their parents /guardians will be able to listen to lots of different sounds, dance and move, and play music together. The classes include percussion instruments to play on, visual projections, lights and bubbles!

“The School of Noise is one of those ideas that you just KNOW is right: bringing back a sense of wonder & accessibility to music-making. Music is organised noise and organising noise is fun!” — Jarvis Cocker

Listen & Play is intended to be just as fun and interesting for grown-ups as well as their children. The music played won’t just be traditional children’s songs and nursery rhymes. We combine music from a variety of different genres and artists including Brian Eno, Bjork, Kraftwerk, Four Tet, Miles Davis and Delia Derbyshire.

Each class will focus on a particular theme to which all the sounds and visuals relate. For example, a theme of ‘animals’ will include listening to birdsong, songs that mention animals, and humans talking.
