About

ABOUT US
The Gabrielle Rowley School of Dancing has been in existence for over 75 years in various locations in Muswell Hill, and in its present location for over 50 years.
Its founder, Miss Gabrielle Rowley, was a pupil of Phyliss Bedells who in turn was a pupil of the great Tamara Karsavina.
It is now run by Tamara Murray who took over in 1995 when Gabrielle Rowley retired, and she herself was a pupil of Miss Gabrielle Rowley and remained a friend of hers until she sadly passed away in 2019 aged a wonderful 106. Since graduating from her school, Tamara trained at the prestigious Royal Academy of Dance where on graduation she received the Karsavina prize.
Since then, Tamara has taught ballet (both RAD and Cecchetti), tap, modern and jazz in various locations and schools in and around London on behalf of Chelsea ballet schools. She was also a member of the Drama Dance and Speech Department at the City Lit adult education institute in Covent Garden, where she taught advanced conditioning and musical theatre amongst other things for 25 years and where she was in charge of the dance provision for the department for several years too.

Tamara now runs and teaches at The Gabrielle Rowley School of Dancing along with Miss Kerry West who also teaches for her, as well as freelancing with other schools.
