Hello and welcome to TinyTalk North and East Cardiff! My name is Katie and I’m your local TinyTalk Teacher and mum to Maya who is 8 and Nell who is 5.

I was first introduced to sign when I started out as a Teacher working with children with additional needs. I was blown away by how these children were able to communicate their wants and needs through signs. I actively used sign language throughout my career and found it a vital tool to help break down communication barriers and give children a voice.

When I had my two children I was very keen to sign with both of them, my husband and I signed every day with the girls. It all paid off when both of them were using signs every day to communicate. At 14 months Nell had over 30 signs! Nell’s favourite sign was ‘Duck’ and she often signed this if she wanted to go to the local park to see them!

Tiny Talk offers a nice balance of fun, interactive classes for half an hour with a social time at the end for Mums to have a (hot!) cup of tea or coffee and a biscuit while little ones can interact and play for the last half an hour. Classes are dedicated to signing and singing to popular nursery rhymes on a theme each week e.g. families, body parts or mealtimes, we also have puppets, sensory activities and instruments. We teach a total of 150 signs throughout the programme that you can continue to use with your baby at home. You can join any time of the term as we do recap throughout.

The Tiny Talk baby sign class is aimed at babies from birth up to 18 months/2 years. If your child is over 18 months, walking and looking for some more physicality you can come and join our Toddler Talking classes. We are still signing and singing but are focusing on speech and language development in our little ones. We also focus on key social skills and get out toddlers school ready practising turn taking, listening and sharing.
