What Trymwood Studios says

Trymwood Studios is a very special artist studio and gallery space in the oldest part of Westbury-on-Trym, three miles from the centre of Bristol. We love to share beautiful artworks, made by artists who engage directly with the natural world. We also hold events and run workshops for those curious about nature and art.

Fledglings at Trymwood Studios is twice-weekly celebration of creativity and the natural-world for pre-schoolers.

Our Fledgling sessions begin with the children making a circle and welcoming each other in song. More often than not, we introduce a small box into the circle containing a hint to the session's theme. We love to fill our box with found things, whether that be a beautiful Jay feather or a Roe Deer skull. The children enjoy passing the treasure to each other to explore its 'thingness' - it's smell, it's texture. Our Fledglings sessions flow from this into a celebration of the theme through songs, poetry, stories and art-making.

Where do we meet?

Fledglings meet in our special gallery space in Westbury-on-Trym, although we try and be out in our beautiful gardens as much as possible. Whilst outside we love to encourage the children to be inquisitive observers of the wildlife that visits us as well as explore the beautiful meadow that grows there.

Fledglings at Trymwood Studios is run by Hannah and Lucy - great friends who love to share their passion for art and nature with little ones. With 6 children between them and many years experience as educationalists, Hannah and Lucy bring to Fledglings a warmth and enthusiasm that inspires.

Recent testimonials:

'Wow! What a fantastic way to learn about nature through creative art, song, poems as well as getting outside amongst the wildlife. Thank you Lucy & Hannah.”

“Fledglings is so much fun. Hannah & Lucy are so welcoming & creative with their ideas. We have loved exploring nature through painting, cutting paper, charcoal, clay, wool, sticking, weaving & drawing. The singing, poems and story telling is captivating too. Highly recommend for toddlers.”

“Fledglings is such a brilliant group. My 3 year old daughter loved making art using different materials whilst learning about natures delights, such as spiders, wasps, wind & berries. A stand out memory will be the laughter using the conker runs!”
