Description

A creative texture adventure (Sensory Focused Painting Workshop)

Rooted in nature and mindful making, this activity allows children to slow down, observe natural forms, and express themselves freely. All materials are safe for children, and each child leaves with their own unique artwork.

This activity encourages children to create art using natural materials, helping them to observe and recognise different textures and shapes. Through hands-on making painting workshop, children develop hand–eye coordination while enjoying the freedom to explore and create in a relaxed and supportive environment.

Process

Exploring Leaves: The painting workshop begins with children observing and examining different leaves together, noticing their shapes, textures, and veins. Curiosity is encouraged by inviting them to imagine how these natural forms might leave marks on paper.

Applying Colour: Paint is applied directly onto the surface of the selected leaf and spread using hands, ensuring that the veins and textures are fully covered. This stage allows children to engage closely with colour and texture through touch.

Printing and Revealing: The painted leaf is placed face down onto clean paper and gently pressed by hand or with a roller. The leaf is then slowly lifted to reveal the printed texture, and the resulting patterns are observed together.

Repeating and Exploring: Children are encouraged to repeat the process using different colours or leaves. This open-ended exploration supports experimentation, creativity, and individual expression.

Reflection and Sharing: The painting workshop ends with a short group discussion, where children share their observations about the prints, the colours they discovered, and what they enjoyed most during the activity.
